Subject:Spike's WWII Memoirs
Posted by:jcw_da_dmg.
Time:8:21 am.
Mood: grateful.
A friend of mine has helped me acquire the audio recordings of Spike Milligan's WWII memoirs, and I find myself as much addicted to these as to the Goon Show itself.  They are so much more than funny.  They are also sad, moving, fascinating, crazy, and always entertaining.

Subject:I Think I Finally Know What I'm Doing For Christmas
Posted by:frankpicasso.
Time:8:00 pm.
Hi, all!

Well, I've been giving it some serious thought, and I've finally decided what I'll be doing for Christmas. Yup! You guessed it! I'm walking backwards for Christmas! And guess what course I'll be plotting. That's right! Across the Irish Sea. You see, I've actually tried walking sideways, and, in fact, walking to the front, but people always seem to just laugh and say, "It's a publicity stunt!" So, I suppose I'll just walk backwards for Christmas in order to prove that I really do, indeed, love YOU!

Cheers ... and pudding!

Time:1:29 pm.

Ladies and gentlemen, the BBC have decided to draw back their veil of secrecy and announce to the listeners a merry Christmas and custard.

(sings) Jingle bells, jingle bells ...

Ah ooowl. Who threw that second hand Christmas pudding at me eye.

Quick Jock Snagge (???), tie his teeth behind his back before he can eat it.

Subject:Sound fx
Posted by:fredex_42.
Time:6:34 pm.
Spending this Sunday at London Zoo, I was reminded of probably my favourite Goon Show sound effect - the penguin playing a piano at the beginning of 'Insurance the White Man's Burden'. So I found myself wondering, what are the favourite sound effects of fellow Goon loons? Please send your answers on the back of a small brown paper parcel tied with string to East Acton...

Subject:I hate audiences
Posted by:electricwireles.
Time:10:37 pm.
Mood: annoyed.
Finally got to see Ying Tong on Saturday night. Not bad, although I had to concentrate to follow the dialogue. Possibly a problem with the acoustics, or just me?

The ability of the actors to mimic the voices was pretty amazing, although !Seacombe was a bit of a let down (David James played with him with a posh English accent). Geoff Kelso's Eccles and Moriarty were particularly good.

Bloody audience.

Every time there was a joke, the audience would laugh and then half a dozen would go into a coughing fit which meant the next punchline was missed. The guy sitting next to me was wheezing the whole performance too AND he had a cigarette or two at interval.

Subject:Yingtong at BBC4
Posted by:borgseawolf.
Time:2:39 pm.
There's a radio version of "Yingtong: A Walk with Goons" play right now on BBC radio 4. I believe it will be available for download pretty soon on BBC4 website for those who missed it.
I haven't seen the play on stage, I have to say that on the radio the performances are stunning. It took me a while to realize it wasn't actually Harry Seacombe speaking!

In the course of my work, just now, I came across a document bearing the name Spriggs, as in "Hello Jiiiiiiim". It considerably brightened my otherwise dreary afternoon. May I expect to find another, mentioning a certain Webster Smogpule? One lives in hope.

Subject:How dare you call me Major Bloodnok!
Posted by:slutbunwalla.
Time:12:02 am.
I always have a revelatory moment on YouTube. For instance, such as this one, I was looking at old Sesame St. clips and suddenly realized I could look for Muppet Show clips! It may seem obvious, but I'm a little slow.
A little, slow _what_? you might ask.

Consequently, I saw this and his voice is so recognizable as remnants of different characters...it kind of shape shifts a little bit but underneath...Underneath, I say it is absolutely naked! No, no, I meant "it's Bloodnok!" Maybe a naked Bloodnok? With a sock full of warm spagetti?
...Maybe not.
Just thought I'd share, maybe everyone's seen these before...
